Is Actua free?

Yes. Actua is free and open source under the MIT License. There is no subscription for the app.

Is Actua the official Actual Budget app?

No. Actua is an independent community project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Actual Budget.

What is Actual Budget?

Actual Budget is a privacy-focused, local-first personal finance and budgeting application that you can self-host. Visit actualbudget.org to learn more.

Do I need my own Actual Budget server?

Yes, Actua connects directly to a self-hosted Actual Budget server. If you don't have one handy, open Manage → Connection & Data → Try demo budget to explore Actua with a completely local sample budget.

Does Actua work offline?

Yes. Actua keeps a local copy of your budget for offline use and synchronizes changes with your Actual server, with encrypted sync, when you're back online.

Is it safe to connect Actua to my budget?

Actua can write changes to your synchronized Actual budget. We recommend backing up important budgets before connecting a new client, and reporting any unexpected sync behavior on GitHub.

Does Actua collect my data or show ads?

No. Actua has no analytics, ads, or third-party tracking. Your budget data only ever goes to the Actual server you configure, and credentials are stored securely in the Android Keystore. Read the full privacy policy for details.

What Android version do I need?

Actua requires Android 9 or newer. Dynamic Material You theming is available on Android 12+.

Where can I report a problem or request a feature?

Open an issue on GitHub, or join Discord to discuss it with the community.

Is Actua on Google Play?

Yes. Join the Actua Google group and you can install Actua from the Play Store with automatic updates. A public listing that doesn't require the group is on the way. You can also download the APK from GitHub Releases or use Obtainium.

Who builds Actua?

Actua is built by Azimul Kabir and the community, and was originally based on and informed by Actuali, the open-source iOS client by Matt Farrell. Contributions are welcome.
